Pros and cons of Chessimo app for iPhone and iPad
Chessimo app good for
I was using this amazing tools since it was named Personal chess trainer. If you are quite good player and already know something about chess - this is the fastest tool to help you improving your chess eyes!
I find the commentary in the tactics exercises helpful. Perhaps beginning the end game and strategy units with a brief explanation about what is the unifying lesson (i.e. pinning, knight check mates, etc.) might be might the goal clearer?
This is the training software that I have hoped for. It is intuitive and does exactly what is best for my style of learning.
Thanks for this great software!
Looks extensive and thorough without being a pitiful cash grab
Easy to use, good interface, and lots of good teaching points. I looked at a lot of chess trainers and this one works the best.
Its a great way for me to get my brain back into chess. I like the fact that I can do a few exercises if I just have a couple spare minutes.
Some bad moments
Cannot sign into Facebook to sync with website (says I am not signed in but I am, both the in-phone app and in safari). Cannot transfer training because it will not recognize the Chessimo login that works perfectly fine on the website. So I cant sync with online profile from my phone and I cant start training on the online profile and transfer to my phone.
Old review:
It seems a lot of puzzles where there arent moves forced by checks rely on the computer making mistakes. Even the apps own AI wont make the moves programmed into the puzzles.
The app crashes often when playing the AI in exercises to explore alternatives. The AI stops responding and you end up playing both sides until the crash.
Would be 4 starts, but at the price I want an app that doesnt crash when doing normal things.
I paid for those 30 banally impossible moves of yours. No good and useless training at all ...
The user interface is great - very easy to understand whats happening.
Im not good at chess, so thats why I decided to try this app out. Its got lots of different scenarios that help you learn how to think tactfully. Its also really fun!
Only thing Id like to see is the ability to step back through the puzzles after you complete them.
I first bought Chessimo for the computer years ago. Since then, I have purchased it for the iPad and a third version for my iPhone.
It is a huge downside that my progress is not saved in a centralized location. Id love to do some training on my iPad app at home, then pick it up later on my iPhone exactly where I left off. Apples iCloud should make this a breeze...this is annoying enough to dock 2 stars.
Also, I paid up a few bucks for the crafty engine so that if I play a wrong move I can quickly understand why. The engine makes horrific blunders even in king and pawn vs king endgames, so clearly there is some issue with the engine implementation.
Chess tips boom! You will become a better player with this app, no diggity doubt.
